Flying Lotus Interview for Inspired Flight
every FlyLo interview i run across makes me love him that much more. he nails a lot of topics right on the head here (or how i feel about them, anyhow) namely storytelling, the original vs. perceived meaning of beat/instrumental music, bucking “Dubstep rules”, and a couple choice quotes. more than anything—and you really get this impression just approaching him for conversation—he’s just a normal dude. a modern-day, living genius of a normal dude.
sidenote: i’ve felt for about a year now that beat music is possibly the second most wildly interpretable form of communication, wherein a room full of people listening to the same song will all hear something incredibly different and individualized to them. (the first being verbal communication, obviously—just replace “same song” with “same person”).
